I decided to change my business focus, but after a few months I felt that I was wandering in circles without a path. Initially, I hired Monica to get clear about the action steps I needed to take to get things done. While we were working, she kept pointing out my patterns of distraction and self-sabotage—habits that I was so immersed in that I didn’t notice. She helped me get more clear about the how and why of them and then helped me find ways to change them. I now am moving confidently forward and no longer feel lost. I can now catch myself when I start actions that take me off my path.
Emotional Intelligence was something that I had heard about but had only a vague idea around how it worked and why it was important. I’d heard of it referenced in conferences, but wasn’t sure it was something I needed. My staff were doing okay and I felt like I was a decent manager. We were hitting target metrics, but I was struggling with getting my staff motivated to take on new challenges and own parts of the department. I began working with Monica as a suggestion from my store manager. Over the next few months I had my eyes opened. Monica was able to tailor our sessions toward my own personal opportunities and through that I was able to not only see how important Emotional Intelligence is in motivating and empowering my staff, but also see clear ways to grow and develop that area. She took away the mystery and gave me a toolbox. Over the next months I was able to see my staff go from ‘just being at work’ to ‘excited to be at work’. This may not seem like much of a change, but productivity and initiative went up! This was a direct result of working through exercises Monica assigned weekly. She was a caring listener and incredibly talented at understanding emotion and motivation. I was able to talk through scenarios I had been through at work, and she was able to give solid, productive support by asking direct, reflective, insightful questions. Monica left me with a trove of things to practice and work on. I feel like our brief time together crammed in a life’s worth of insights with people, and every day I use her techniques to build stronger relationships with my staff and coworkers. It was hard work; I would compare it to Occupational Therapy in the sense that every week I had a new set of exercises to do multiple times a day. In the end, however, it paid off and I find myself a better manager, with better relationships with my staff, and with a staff that is emotionally invested in their work. Emotional Intelligence is something every manager needs, and Monica will get you there.
From the moment I met Monica, I felt very comfortable around her. It’s a tricky thing to put someone at ease while giving them gentle nudges, and Monica has thoroughly mastered that art. During our sessions, she helped me focus on what really mattered to me—lots of “aha” moments—and encouraged me to find the language to share my feelings with my husband. I’m grateful for the work we did together, and continue to use the framework and tools she provided me with.
The biggest shift I experienced from my work with Monica was finding the clarity and support I needed to end a 5 year long relationship that was a big source of stress for me. I was hanging onto the relationship even though I knew it wasn’t working, and it was a constant source of frustration and resentment for me. Yet, I kept talking myself into staying with it. The questions Monica asked made it clear to me that I needed to let it go. She encouraged me to commit to taking action promptly instead of delaying…it actually got me to do it. I was able to set clear boundaries and have them respected. I have felt a lot of relief after ending the relationship, and I am still grateful to have done it. I am grateful for the clarity and encouragement that helped me move on.
I want to thank you for working with my mid-level manager. She has applied the work she has gleaned, while working with you with Emotional Intelligence. As a result her staff are more productive and happier in the workplace. I have seen a positive change in her and the leadership she brings each day.
